Programme Objectives:
The purpose of the programme is to provide a learning forum so that on completion participants will have developed:

  • A strong knowledge base and foundation in mediation and conflict resolution knowledge, in particular in the field of Organisational and Workplace Mediation.
  • Competence in mediation practice and individual style established.
  • Competence in the creation of appropriate Dispute Systems for organisations.

Programme Outcomes:
On completion of the programme participants will have:

  • Confidence in how to analyse a dispute.
  • Ability to engage with parties in the first instance and manage the mediation process.
  • Ability to engage with organisations in designing Dispute Systems that best meet the organisations need.
  • The basis for full accreditation by the Mediators Institute Ireland.

Methodology and Training Components:
The course components generally consist of lectures, workshops and case consultation which include:

  • Presentations
  • Experiential Exercises
  • Role-plays
  • Review of recorded mediation sessions
  • Recording Role-plays
  • Coached Role-Play

Assessment:

  1. Project related to Organizational and Workplace Mediation (3,000 words)
  2. Recorded role play - self-assessed and assessed by CRMC.
  3. 80% attendance required.
  4. For MII accreditation trainees taking a Practitioner Course are required to mediate three cases and complete 75 hours of mediation. These cases are taken with the support of a Practice Consultant.

Qualifications/biog: 1986 to date practicing mediator family and workplace. Lecturer UCD 1982 – 1986; Programme Director Mediation & Conflict Resolution, UCD, Director 1999 – 2007; Director CRMC: Conflict Resolution & Mediation Consultants, 2002 to date.

Qualifications/biog:Julie McAuliffe has been in practice as a mediator since 1999, both in the Family Mediation Service and in general practice., Julie practices as a workplace mediator mediating both workplace issues and facilitating organisations develop dispute resolution systems that meet the needs and culture of organisations. She delivers Conflict Coaching for individuals and groups.

Training experience: Julie lectured on the Diploma in Mediation Studies for seven years and also on the Degree on Health and Safety at University College Dublin. trains and supervises student Family Mediators.

Qualifications/biog: Audrey O Carroll has been in practice as a mediator and trainer since 1997 in the Mediation Bureau, Tallaght, practicing Community Mediation. She has mediated many conflicts in the community, the workplace and multiparty disputes. She works with organizations to develop dispute resolution systems that are tailored to meet the organization_s culture and needs.

Training Experience: Audrey has run many training courses on mediation and related skills. She has been a lecturer, skills trainer and supervisor on the Masters in Workplace & Organisation Mediation at University College Dublin, as well as in the Diploma in Mediation Studies, since its commencement in 1999 at UCD. She has tutored on the Extra Mural Course on Conflict Resolution and Mediation in UCD since 1997.
