To introduce participants to the theory, process and principles of mediation in different contexts, and to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes to achieve certification to practise.
The course is a generic mediation training. The training applies theoretical models of mediation in a variety of settings with theoretical input and context knowledge interspersed with exercises and role-plays relevant to the particular knowledge base. The training methods include didactic presentations, role-play, case materials, group discussion, video demonstration and completion of a conflict mapping exercise In line with theory of adult learning, participants are given feedback on their conflict exercise and their demonstration of the integration of skills and knowledge in roleplay. Trainees are asked to evaluate each training module.
3rd level qualification and/or portfolio of experience.
Assessment occurs during the training days on understanding, participation and evidence through role play of acquired skills. In addition, learners will engage in a continuous cycle of self-observation and self-evaluation. Learners are required to complete a Conflict Assignment (2500 words) . This assignment is evaluated by the trainers and is used to assess participants' integration of skills and knowledge throughout the training.
To become a Certified mediator with the Mediators' Institute of Ireland, participants must go forward for certification. This certification is a videoed assessment where the participant demonstrates the core mediation skills through role-play of a simulated workplace conflict.
A training consultant with Round Table Mediation and Training, Bernadette has worked in management training for 20 years specialising in mediation skills in workplace and other life areas and in the development of high-level management training programmes. Ber has facilitated the development of an MBA in Healthcare Management, has developed and managed programmes in Workplace Training and Development for public and private organisations and contributed to the training programme of the Family Mediation Service.
Siun is a mediation and training consultant to Round Table Mediation & Training and is involved in the preparation and presentation of training programmes,. Siun has presented this training since 1997, updated annually, and has over twenty years experience at operational and management levels in the mediation and training field. This experience informs the training in an experiential manner. Siun has contributed to mediation training programmes in UCC, UCD, The Law Society of Ireland, the Equality Authority the Juvenile Justice Programme and the Family Mediation Service. Siun has presented workshops at Mediation conferences at home and abroad.
The MII accredits mediation training courses which meet set training standards.
The purpose of CPD is to ensure that Mediators keep their knowledge and skills up to date for the benefit of users of their service and for their own personal and professional development.
