This programme is designed to provide knowledge and skills in conflict resolution and mediation. It is delivered in four units over eight days. This is a highly interactive and integrated programme, bringing together the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes for the demanding work of facilitating the resolution of emotion and interest based conflict. The content consists of a mixture of theoretical presentation, an exploration of how theory applies to practice, and skills development through exercises and role-play. It aims to integrate participants’ experience and abilities with mediation and conflict management.
Methodology & Evaluation:
This is generic mediation training. The training comprises theoretical input and context knowledge interspersed with exercises and skill development through role play, case studies, written assignments and the completion of prescribed reading. The training methods include a course manual, theoretical presentations, role-play, group discussion, video demonstration and analysis and participant coaching in skill development.
On completion of this course participants are assessed through a Role-Play Competency Assessment. On successfully passing the assessment, participants receive a Certificate in Mediation which gives eligibility to apply for Certified status with the Mediators' Institute of Ireland.
