Draft Mediation Bill 2012


Karen Erwin, President, The MII, and Gerry Rooney, President Elect, met with the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Women's Rights in relation to the draft Mediation Bill on Thursday 24 May. 

During the one-hour meeting, standards and regulation of mediation and Mediators was discussed, including requirements for the MII  annual practising certificate, the MII Code of Ethics and Practice and the independent regulation of MII approved Mediators. 

The MII submitted a detailed submission on the Draft Mediation Bill and appreciated the opportunity to engage directly with the Committee.

As the draft Mediation Bill has not yet been published, it is not available on the Oireachtas website.

The Government's Legislative Programme for the Autumn session, which was posted on the Department of the Taoiseach's website on 18.09.2012 (http://www.taoiseach.gov.ie/eng/Taoiseach_and_Government/Government_Legislation_Programme/) lists the Mediation Bill in their B List - Bills for which Heads of Bill have been agreed and text is being prepared. However, they give its expected publication date as mid 2013, so it looks like it is not due for publication in the immediate future.
