Carol Coulter (Irish Times, 14 June, p.9) reports that the pilot mediation scheme that was introduced as a joint initiative of the Courts Service, the Legal Aid Board and the Family Mediation Service (FMS) has resulted in a net saving in excess of 100,000 Euro to the Courts Service.
Of the 399 people referred to mediation, 293 had finalised agreements by the end of the review period with a considerable number of mediations still in progress.
This is a welcome outcome for the individuals, the Courts Service and the public purse.
