BUILDING A RESEARCH FOUNDATION TO INFORM POLICY & PRACTICE IN IRELAND

The CIPD Western Region Committee, in conjunction with event sponsors NUI Galway, hosted this event.

This CIPD Ireland Western Region Event was kindly hosted by NUI Galway. Dr Deirdre Curran and Ms Sabine Walsh  deliveredr a presentation entitled, ‘Mediation: Shaping the Agenda’. Deirdre Curran leads a national level group that conducts applied research into mediation as a process of workplace dispute resolution. Sabine Walsh is the President of the Mediators Institute of Ireland (MII). The focus of their presentation was on describing the findings of a comprehensive research project, conducted by the research group, and sponsored by the MII. The purpose of the project was to draw on international literature to explore the competencies/skills/behaviours of effective workplace mediators, and to discuss the implications for mediation practice in Ireland. It is envisaged that this research will help shape the agenda of workplace mediation in this country.
