The MII traditionally had 4 listed sectors including - Civil and Commercial; Community; Family; and Organisational and Workplace - whose function was to provide a forum for sharing and learning and an opportunity to review issues and developments within the different areas. Following review of the role of sectors with the membership it was agreed that sectors should not be institutionalised, that there should be flexibility in the structures, and there should be no rigid barriers.
The MII recognises the benefit of forums to allow Mediators to engage and discuss the challenges and opportunities in different areas of practice and has appointed Specialist Liaison Officers to liaise and build relationships between stakeholders and members in particular areas of interest.
In addition to the original four areas of interest, the MII has appointed a Liaison Officer to the emerging areas of Elder Mediation and Peace Building Mediation.
Commercial Mediation: Austin Kenny
Family Mediation: Claire Kearney
Community and Voluntary Mediation: TBC
Organisation and Workplace Mediation: Helen Harnett
Elder Mediation: Bernadette Casey
Peacebuilding Mediation: Vera Hogan
All MII members are entitled to attend any sector meeting, whether active in that particular sector or not. Notices of upcoming sector meetings are posted on the MII home page while the agenda, support documents and summary overviews are posted in the members area.
If you have any queries or require any further information please contact the MII or the MII Liaison Officers.
