Teresa Clyne BA, MSc Mediation and Conflict Resolution
    Last updated May 2025
Hi, I'm Teresa Clyne, and I run DéDannan Mediation Services.
For me, mediation isn't just a process; it's something I truly believe in. I'm a certified mediator, and my background is quite varied, which I think really helps me understand different perspectives. I'm legally trained and spent about 15 years teaching law, mediation, and even business management. This mix of experience helps me quickly grasp the ins and outs of various disputes, whether they're personal, professional, or legal. I'm also a registered mediator with the Mediators Institute of Ireland, and you can have peace of mind knowing that DéDannan Mediation Services is fully insured.
Since becoming a certified mediator in 2020, my passion for helping people resolve conflict has only deepened. I approach mediation with both experience and genuine enthusiasm. I believe one of my strengths is really listening – I make sure I hear everyone's side of the story. Conflict can be confusing, especially when legal or business terms are involved or when emotions are running high. I see my role as clarifying and translating everything into plain English, so you and everyone involved can truly understand the situation and why you might be stuck. This clarity often allows clients to take a step back and see things from new, helpful perspectives. Ultimately, I help you clarify your own opinions, objectives, and what's truly important, empowering you to find solutions and resolutions that work best for you.
My mediation style is designed to be effective yet comfortable. I aim for a relaxed atmosphere, which helps everyone feel safe to talk, but I combine this with a gentle firmness to ensure our conversations stay focused and productive. A key part of my process is meeting with each person individually before we all sit down together. This is really valuable time – it allows you to openly share your concerns, helps us pinpoint the core issues, and lets you think about what outcomes are most important to you. It also gives you a chance to vent and perhaps start seeing the situation in a slightly different light, giving you time to process options without the pressure of the other person present. This careful preparation, combined with a positive and calm approach, is why around 70% of cases I mediate reach a settlement on the day. If we don't settle on the day, that doesn't mean it's over; I'm committed to continuing to work with you to keep the momentum towards finding a resolution. I also offer the flexibility of informal early intervention via online mediation if that's a better fit.
Drawing on my background and experience in mediation since 2020,
I've helped people navigate all sorts of disagreements. This includes complex situations, and I've even been involved as a lead mediator in challenging cases linked to miscarriages of justice. As well as general mediation training, I have specialist training specifically to help separating couples – a time often filled with intense emotion and difficult decisions about finances and children. Rest assured, I am fully insured for both professional indemnity and public liability. I can work with you in the way that suits you best – face-to-face, online, or even by telephone.
People come to me when they're facing difficult situations and need help finding a way forward. Here are a few examples of the kinds of things I've helped with recently:
Community Conflicts: Like sorting out serious issues between members of a tennis club and their board. We clarified everyone's positions, which helped prevent similar problems from happening again.
Workplace Disputes: I mediated a grievance between a manager and a small business owner. We improved their working relationship and highlighted areas where the business needed to make structural changes for things to run smoother.
Family Business Issues: I helped a mother and daughter who were struggling with conflict in their small family business, creating a much better working atmosphere for them both.
School Staff Conflicts: I mediated a difficult situation between a head and a staff member at a school, which helped calm things down and improved the atmosphere for all the staff.
Separating Couples: I worked with a couple who found it almost impossible to talk to each other due to constant arguments over finances, maintenance, property, and savings. I guided them through the practicalities like budgeting and parenting plans, helping them set aside their conflict for the sake of their children and create a detailed agreement that addressed everyone's needs.
Parenting Disagreements: I've helped parents who disagree on things like parenting styles or how to handle financial contributions for the family, leading to a clearer understanding of the costs involved and each other's perspectives.
My professional qualifications, including being a Certified Separating Couples Mediator (2021) and Accredited Civil & Commercial Mediator (2020), along with my background in law (Hons Degree in Law with social sciences, 2005), business (Degree in Business Management, 1998), criminology (Masters in Criminology and Forensic Psychology, 2015), and teaching (Registered teacher 2015, Train the trainer 2012), all feed into my ability to help you navigate complex issues.
My goal is to help you find a clear, constructive path forward when conflict feels overwhelming.
